Crafted from pear wood with bronze handles, Hotel du Lac is both a functional cabinet and sculptural homage to the iconic brutalist building of the same name in Tunis. Long unexploited yet architecturally striking, the original Hôtel du Lac—designed by Italian architect Raffaele Contigiani—is a hidden jewel of African modernism. This piece mimics its bold silhouette, transforming it into a vessel of memory, a container of layered histories. At once utilitarian and poetic, the cabinet blurs the boundaries between art and design, structure and story, city and self. It invites reflection on how heritage and modernity, local identity and global influence, coexist and collide across both object and architecture.
