This sculpture shines with the alien quality of a deep aesthetic experience, looking back both to Art Nouveau and Surrealism. It creates a heightened poetic experience, suggesting that reality is more mysterious and unified than it appears – perhaps, in fact, it is hidden behind the surface of ordinary perception. The luminous shades are of handblown glass, grasped within tendrils of cast bronze.
